Color Chart: Reinventing Color from 1950 to Today

by sbrothier & 1 other
This exhibition takes as its point of departure the commercial color chart, an item that openly declares the status of color as mass-produced and standardized. Midway through th twentieth century, long-held convictions regarding the spiritual or emotional power of particular colors gave way to the embrace of color as an ordinary commodity.

schemata architecture office: flat project

by karlcow

earlier, in june this year, japanese architecture studio schemata poured color epoxy

on the top board of school desks which were used in elementary schools. the now 'flat'

desks were before uneven due to time deterioration or scribbling. although the school

desks all have the same shape, they gradually gain individual character through the personal

items of the pupil, like a school bag or a hat. however, in this project, the individuality of

the desks is regenerated through colors, thanks to the craftsmanship and expertise

of nakamura shuhei. he reset the the unevenness to 'flat' with translucent color epoxy.

deep points are mirrored by dense colors and shallow points by more transparent shades.

this project is part of the 'flatproject' series.

This being a blog about maps, I of course mean Harvard not as a school but as a geographic entity. What color is the landscape, physical and cultural? When people look around at whatever interests them, what colors are they looking at?

CSS Tools: Reset CSS

by mozkart & 1 other (via)
The goal of a reset stylesheet is to reduce browser inconsistencies in things like default line heights, margins and font sizes of headings, and so on. The general reasoning behind this was discussed in a May 2007 post, if you're interested. Reset styles quite often appear in CSS frameworks, and the original "meyerweb reset" found its way into Blueprint, among others. The reset styles given here are intentionally very generic. There isn't any default color or background set for the body element, for example. I don't particularly recommend that you just use this in its unaltered state in your own projects. It should be tweaked, edited, extended, and otherwise tuned to match your specific reset baseline. Fill in your preferred colors for the page, links, and so on. In other words, this is a starting point, not a self-contained black box of no-touchiness.

Time/Weather Desktop on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

by karlcow

Well, most of the work is done by Earthdesk and GeekTool 3.

Earthdesk is set to Natural Color, Equirectangular projection, Natural Color, Real Moonlight, centered on Vienna, Background: Starfield. Zoom 80%, Clouds 80%, Brightness 80%.

In GeekTool, the times and the weathers are all separate Shell "geeklets".

Times are generated by running shell commands like

env TZ=Asia/Tokyo date " %l:%M %p"

every 20 seconds

The weather is the tricky part. The way I am doing it now, if I am not careful, gets me throttled for too many concurrent requests to the wunderground.com API server. It also fails badly if I am disconnected, so I will need to do it differently.

FWIW: I have a PHP script which I run as separate Shell Geeklets. I invoke it with the name of the city I want. It then hits wunderground and gets back an XML stream of the local weather, which I parse, format and echo. (the way I'd change this is run the script from cron, with a 30 second wait between requests, and cache the results locally, which I would then call from the Shell Geeklets)

From there it's just a question of setting fonts, sizes, colors and moving the little Geeklet boxes around as you want them.

Our Wedding: Part 2 | The uber-emotional ceremony

by blackgoldfish
Still, I wanted to tie in our fair / carnival / summer party-bbq theme a bit so I made this bunting (banners or flagging or garlands, whatever you want to call them) to go along the aisle. We shopped for a couple months to find cool patterned fabrics in our wedding colors.

How to Design a Tumblelog Theme for WordPress | Digging into WordPress

by mozkart
Tumblelogs are a great way to streamline mixed-media blogging for different types of content. Commonly used tumblelog topics include “Links”, “Photos”, “Quotes”, “Dialogue”, and “Video”. A good tumblelog presents each these different topics with its own unique format while retaining an overall sense of cohesion throughout the entire design. A good example of this involves the clever way in which titles for “Link-category” posts link to the showcase URL rather than to the post itself. Other post types may be styled with different colors, meta information, and anything else that seems appropriate. Bottom line is that a well-designed tumblelog makes it easy and fun to showcase and organize a wide variety of different content types all in one place. Although I prefer to tumble via my Tumblr account, I have always wanted to integrate the process into WordPress by designing a tumblelog-style theme. So in this brisk tutorial, that’s exactly what we’re going to do. The goals of our Tumble Theme are as follows: Create categories for each content type: Links, Photos, Quotes, Dialogue, and Video Create unique category, single, and index views for each content type Make post title links for the Link category point to the showcase URL instead of the post itself Also provide a link to the post itself (i.e., single view) for posts in the Link category
