Lessons Learned Shooting with the Canon 5D Mark II :: digitalartwork – Multimedia Journalism

by sbrothier
For the Michael Jackson Memorial piece I worked on, we decided before I left for L.A. that we would use the Canon 5D Mark II to try and push the look of the piece, and to try something new. The first thing I did, is call up a freelancer, Patrick Burke, to run sound. Patrick used to be an AC (Assistant Camera) in L.A. so he came with all the right tools, including a film slate that we used to sync audio from a Marantz PMD660 to the video footage of the 5D.

26 Eye-Catching Long Exposure Photographs | Inspiration | PelFusion.com

by ghis
Long exposure is really amazing photography technique to capture light and movement. When an image is taken including stationary and moving subjects (for example, a fixed street and moving cars or a camera within a car showing a fixed dash-board and moving scenery) using a slow shutter speed, interesting effects, such as light trails occur.

Canon XSi/450D

by ghis
"After agonizing for weeks over which digital single lens reflex camera to buy, I bought the Canon XSi /450D, my first DSLR. The XSi has several improvements over its predecessor: a faster processor, improved nine-point autofocus, Live View with dual autofocus modes, spot metering, a larger LCD screen and a larger, brighter viewfinder. It also has an updated menu system. In these blog entries, I share my settings and experiences with the XSi, as well as what I’ve learned about using a DSLR."

Museum of Contemporary Photography

After observing particular subcultures and ethnic groups, Nikki S. Lee adopts their general style and attitude through dress, gesture, and posture, and then approaches the group in her new guise. She introduces herself as an artist (though not everyone believes her or takes it seriously), and then spends several weeks participating in the group’s routine activities and social events while a friend or member of the group photographs her with an ordinary automatic “snapshot” camera. Lee maintains control of the final image, however, insofar as she chooses when to ask for a picture and edits what photographs will eventually be displayed.

How to convert raw cr2 pictures with linux, and merge pictures by date and Exif data with jhead

by ghis (via)
"I recently went to an event with a coworker who took pictures with an SLR Canon Camera that took cr2 raw pictures. My goal was to convert them to jpeg, and integrate them with my own pictures (merging/interleaving them by date using the picture data inside cr2 and Exif for my jpegs)"

24h Berlin on The Auteurs

by manue & 3 others
24h Berlin is television's longest programme ever: No actors, no screenplay, no tricks – just real life. A 24-hour documentary, told in real-time, airing September 5th. On that day, in 2008, a story both intimate and exotic began in Berlin, a story told from the perspective of the people. Exactly a year before today's broadcast, 80 camera teams immersed themselves in the lives of Berliners, for 24 hours.

technobabbler » Blog Archive » drive a webcam with python

I bought a USB webcam off of eBay quite some time ago, and I decided to connect it to my telescope with a little bit of hardware hackery. I'll have to see about posting a writeup on how I did that at a later time. Anyway, when I installed my camera software, I quickly found how horrible the program was. It gave a tiny preview of what the camera saw, and had no way of capturing images or video without waaaay too many clicks of the mouse. That's when I decided to write my own in Python.

iPhone Camera Roll 相片消失問題

by blackgoldfish

Digital Photographers, Welcome Back to 1999 | PixSylated | Digital Photography, Canon Flash, Shooting Tethered

by mozkart
Why the value of still images is collapsing It’s that old supply-and-demand thing. The supply of digital images is way, way up. At the same time, advertising in magazines and newspapers is sinking. If you want to continue earning a living at something you already do, it’s helpful if your trade is difficult to do and expensive to get started. Photography during the film-era was this way. Every time I pushed the shutter-button a couple of bucks flew out the window. Now the cost of getting into the pro photography game is virtually nothing (aside from the cost of the camera, the computer, the software, the training… still a relatively low investment for what you’re able to accomplish). I’m grateful that HDSLR cinematography is expensive and problematic right now. The Trib Is Dead. Long Live The Trib. For several generations, ads in magazines and newspapers were the leading consumer of commercial stills. Sorry Charlie, those days are gone. Today advertisers are increasingly moving their efforts over to web-based campaigns. It’s not personal. It’s demographics. OK. So that means that it is personal. The web, with it’s ability to provide instantaneous feedback to advertisers enables those spending the ad bucks to target their message exactly where it needs to be within minutes. For an ad placed in the wrong magazine, the response time is measured in weeks or months. Print advertising is plummeting (stats here). It’s not the economy, stupid. It’s the medium. Check out MagazineDeathPool if you’re not already a regular reader. Now is not be the time to launch a career as a magazine shooter.

PRESETS AND ADOBE CAMERA RAW (ACR) – A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN | x=blog stay informed

by mozkart (via)
Presets for ACR are not new, however the free presets available for ACR are both less numerous and less diverse than those created for Lightroom.  One way to leverage Lightroom presets in ACR is to copy every setting by hand over to ACR and save the preset, however this is extremely time consuming, and introduces more opportunity for human error. The following is a procedure that streamlines the conversion process using the metadata power of Adobe’s DNG file format.
