But when Orkut was blocked at the ISP level in Iran, pretty much nobody in the English-speaking blog-tech-pundit scene seemed to even notice. This continues to bug me. Web technologists apparantly care collectively more about freeing Robert Scoble’s addressbook from Facebook, than about the real potential for unmediated, uncensored, global online community.

Le service Webmaster Tools de Google qui vient récemment de connaître certains changements dans son interface, propose également un nouveau service intéressant pour les responsables de sites web.
En effet, une rubrique "Statistics" propose divers outils dont "Subscriber stats" qui permet de connaître le nombre d'abonnés aux différents flux RSS et Atom proposés par le site. Cependant, seuls les internautes utilisant les services Google tels que iGoogle, Google Reader ou encore Orkut sont comptabilisés.
Cet outil est toutefois intéressant car il permet de se faire une première idée sur l'audience de son site quand on n'utilise pas un service comme Feeburner.

Selon la dernière étude réalisée par l'institut ComScore, le marché français des "réseaux sociaux" est d'ailleurs justement dominé par Skyblog, avec 9,1 millions de visiteurs uniques, suivi de MySpace (2,2 M de VU), Badoo.com (1,3 M de VU), NetLog.com (827 000 VU), Hi5.com (754 000 VU), Lexode.com (675 000 VU), Dada.net (495 000 VU), FaceBook.com (310 000 VU), MSN Group (310 000 VU) et enfin Viadeo (270 000 VU).
Au niveau mondial, ce segment est dominé par le trio MySpace (114 M VU), FaceBook (52M VU) et Hi5 (28M VU) mais intéresse également Yahoo, avec le nouveau Mash.com, sans oublier Google, qui entend capitaliser sur ses différents services communautaires (Blogger, Orkut, DodgeBall, Zingku..) pour rapidement s'affirmer comme une leader de ce segment en pleine expansion.

The finding that Microsoft is a better privacy performer than Google is also likely to be contentious. Microsoft was awarded "orange" status, two bands better than Google's position. However it is important, for the sake of clarity, to note that Windows Live Space received the more negative "red" rating, while Google's Orkut avoided a black rating and was awarded red status.

Marissa Mayer dirige la stratégie de gestion des produits de recherche de Google : recherche sur le Web, recherche d'images, groupes, actualités, Froogle, barre d'outils Google, Google Desktop, Google Labs, etc. Elle a rejoint Google en 1999. Première femme ingénieur chez Google, elle a commencé par diriger les équipes chargées de l'interface utilisateur et des serveurs Web. Elle a travaillé à la conception et au développement de l'interface de recherche de Google, à l'extension du site à plus de 100 langues, à la création de Google Actualités, Gmail et Orkut et au lancement de plus de 100 fonctionnalités et produits sur Google.com. Son travail est à l'origine du dépôt de plusieurs brevets dans le domaine de l'intelligence artificielle et de la conception d'interfaces. Marissa Mayer consacre également une partie de son temps libre aux « Google Movies », sorties organisées plusieurs fois par an pour plus de 6 000 personnes (employés, famille et amis) pour découvrir les derniers films à succès.
