And mailing lists are a common source of messages you need to manage. So, with assistance from the Raindrop hackers, I wrote extensions that make it easier to deal with messages from mailing lists.
Script Converter is a Google Labs product that allows the user to read a web page in a script of their choice. For example if the user can understand spoken Tamil but cannot read the script, they will be able to view Tamil web pages in English (Roman) script. We do not translate any content - we transform the words on the page to its phonetic equivalent in the desired script. We also support the conversion from non-Unicode encodings to Unicode, so that users can view pages without installing the custom font otherwise needed. Users will still need Unicode fonts. At the same time, it creates a programming interface (API) that helps designers and developers extend our work and create new systems on top of that data. We aren’t trying to invent new protocols or build new messaging systems, rather focusing on building a product that lets users get a handle on the systems we already use.
]]>Le Front de Libération des Données (Data Liberation Front) est un mouvement initié par des ingénieurs de chez Google et qui a pour ambition de développer une meilleure circulation et stockage des données entre les applications Google. Le but est de fournir des outils pour exporter et importer des informations facilement et de façon efficace. Leur crédo est simple : Users should be able to control the data they store in any of Google's products. Our team's goal is to make it easier for them to move data in and out. L'idée ici est donc de faciliter le transfert d'une application vers une autre, au sein même des applications Google mais également de et vers des logiciels concurrents pour ne pas verrouiller les utilisateurs sur un applicatif précis. Une vingtaine de produits Google (AdWords, Analytics, Gmail, Maps, Picasa, YouTube...) proposent déjà des informations sur la façon dont ces transferts de données peuvent se faire et la liste devrait s'allonger dans les mois qui viennent.

The goal for this platform is to encourage everyone from all skill levels to improve the Web experience by conducting and participating in these tests.
Le projet Bespin rejoint les laboratoires de développement de la fondation Mozilla. Bespin est un éditeur de code open source avancé (sous licence MPL) comprenant toutes les fonctions habituellement présentes dans ce type d’outil: coloration syntaxique, gestion des projets, édition des fichiers de grande taille, etc. Bespin se différencie de ses concurrents par son mode de fonctionnement. De fait, il s’agit d’une application web. Cet outil sera donc particulièrement adapté aux applications en ligne, exécutées côté serveur ou côté client. Il met également l’accent sur l’aspect collaboratif.

Le mot téléchargement pourrait donc bien être banni du vocabulaire… Pour schématiser, Opera Unite nommera d'une URL chacun de vos fichiers. Ainsi, il suffit de communiquer cette information pour que quelqu'un de votre entourage puisse récupérer les dits fichiers. Opera Unite présente aussi un avantage non négligeable : les données échangées demeurent stockées sur votre machine et nulle part ailleurs.
