VideoClix, a Vancouver-based provider of technologies for clickable interactive video (which it calls "hypervideo"), said last week that it has signed a deal with Dailymotion, a Paris-based company which claims that its flagship broadband video portal is the world's second-largest.

I imagine that in a lot of totally fundamental ways, pitching a university to let you teach a new course must be a lot like pitching a tech article to a mainstream magazine. It all starts with throwing random words at a sheet of brainstorming paper, then cynically deciding that while “iPhone: the future of music composition” is clearly ridiculous, it would look good as a headline [in the course catalog], so let’s see where it gets us anyway. Quickly inducing hyperventilation in order to simulate breathless excitement, you pick up the phone, call your editor [department head] and shout: “The iPhone is the future of music! No one else has done it before, so we’ll be at the forefront, reporting [teaching] about a fantastic new era meshing technology and art!”

What is the difference between Google Street View and handcrafted virtual panoramic photography as of today? What is stopping Street View to look as today’s best VR panoramas?

* Fixers. People that can repair existing equipment to maintain its previous function. (these people are the staple of almost all disaster fiction).

* Makers. People that repurpose existing technology through the implementation of alterations to change its function. A corollary to Makers are people that improve existing products/systems (make them more powerful/better/faster).

* Creators. People that create new tools or unique systems from scratch using raw materials (think fab lab hacks).
