labs.moto.com » Blog Archive » DIY Android Home Energy Monitor

Lately we’ve been tinkering with deploying Android beyond the phone (using Google’s open-source Android to connect devices to each other and the web), so we thought we’d see if we could leverage the efficiency of Android on a BeagleBoard, the accessibility of wireless webcams, and the ease of a Flickr feed to a custom Google Gadget to track the ups and downs of our metered utilities.

Why webcams? While there may be a few compelling (low-cost, low-impact) products out there to monitor your electric meter, there are no comparable products for reading gas or water meters.

So until the really smart grid arrives, here’s a way to chart your whole utility spend on your own Google homepage.

WordPress › Post Templates « WordPress Plugins

It happens quite often that a blogger publishes posts or static pages on a regular basis which have the same structure. Think about for example a "picture of the day" daily post. With current wordpress state, we need to spend a lot of time doing copy/paste between posts instead of actually writing content.

All the instructions for installation, the support forums, etc. can be found on the plugin home page.

IMPORTANT: LICENSE CHANGE

Since version 4.0.0, the plugin has become a commercial plugin. It can be ordered (for cheap) on the plugin home page.

Version 3.4.x will remain available for download for free on the WordPress plugin repository. No further development will be made on this version.

WhatIsVoCamp - VoCamp Wiki

<blockquote><p>VoCamp is a series of informal events where people can spend some dedicated time creating lightweight vocabularies/ontologies for the Semantic Web/Web of Data. The emphasis of the events is not on creating the perfect ontology in a particular domain, but on creating vocabs that are good enough for people to start using for publishing data on the Web. The intention is to follow a "paper first, laptops second" format, where the modelling is done initially on paper and only later committed to code. The VoCamp idea is influenced by BarCamp, although the emphasis is different. Whereas BarCamps are oriented to demos and presentations, VoCamps are oriented to hands-on technical work and practical outputs; any presentations and demos should be short, highly on-topic to the vocabulary development process, and limited in number, to leave plenty of time for hacking on new vocabularies.</p></blockquote>

Les américains surfent (plus) la nuit

    * We all share the same morning and evening Internet addiction: On average, European traffic starts picking up around 5am GMT / 7 am CEST and similarly US traffic takes off around the same time at 7am EDT. Internet traffic also reaches its peaks in the early evening (7pm GMT / 9pm CEST in Europe and 10pm EDT / 7 pm PDT in the US).

    * North American’s don’t surf over dinner: Unlike European traffic, US daily Internet percentages take a small dip in the early evening between 6pm and 10pm EDT. In contrast, Europe traffic keeps climbing through the evening until a marked 9pm GMT / 11pm CEST drop off. Of course, Europeans tend towards later (and longer) dinner hours than their North American counterparts.

    * What Europeans do at night: Actually, this bullet point should be what Europeans don’t do at night — spend a lot of time on the Internet. In contrast to North America, European traffic plummets much more steeply and reaches a lower daily minimum than US traffic (US traffic never drops below 50% whereas Europe declines more more than 60% from its peak). Apparently, North American Internet users stay up later and use the Internet longer (next blog post we’ll explore what they’re doing on the Internet late at night).

upscale typography » Blog Archive » Drawing with Type

This is one of the newest apps for the Apple iphone. The concept is very simple. Drawing with letters. The first release came out late May, but the project started back in 2005 as an online project for the web. You simply type a sentence or word and then you start drawing. You may save it, email it or upload it to the typedrawing flickr group. The new 1.2 update goes one step further. Now you can set colors, typeface, text size, and undo & redo. This is the type of application that makes you spend many creative hours with your iphone or ipod touch.

KDe look and stuff
well i uploaded more epidemic Linux stuff . icons wallpapers and the like. because it seems that flavor is from brasil . I made some greened pics of San Palo and added the bio-hazard logo. Also i had to install new video drivers. so my second life for Linux would work .it is neat but its not some thing I'll spend a lot of time with. I was looking on line to make a script file (an sh file) . i found some good tutorials. I also checked out the information on Arch Linux as it is also very popular.it is kind of like open suse and gen-too as it starts out very basic and the users build on it per their needs. so for the average new user to Linux it isn't recommended. well im of to make script files. :-)

<blockquote><p>The nature of corporations as they grow is to become glacial and bureaucratic because no one trusts anyone. You spend half the day reporting on what you do so execs higher up can keep an eye on you because they believe that some how, you're out to destroy the company. And probably, some number of employees are. Or at the very least, not working up to their potential. Here's an idea, do some careful hiring and recruiting, hire people who are excellent at their jobs AND have some moral fiber, and set them loose to do what you hired them for. No one gets hired to fill out status reports, but that's mostly what we all end up doing. So the good people leave for greener, entrepreneurial pastures, and the people happy about status reports stay, get promoted and the whole thing perpetuates itself until you have Yahoo, GM or any other number of glacial bureauracracies.</p></blockquote><p>the only value of valleywag hides in the comments.</p>
