When the new owners of this beautiful wood-clad home decided they needed to update and add a bit more space to the house, who better to renovate it than the architects who designed the original? Re-enter, New York-based Bates Masi Architects, who worked out a plan to enlarge the kitchen and dining areas, modernize the bathrooms, and refinish the floors, walls and counter tops. Materials and wood from the house were kept and re-used in the renovation, minimizing the need for new materials.
Just craving for it… goshFinally, a greenhouse which can also accommodate people: the Camouflage House. Why should we continue considering that greenhouses are suitable only for plants? It's not the case anymore. This house by Hiroshi Iguchi is part of the Fifth World project which aims to promote eco friendly, sustainable architecture. The house takes natural elements and blends them all into the design of the interior. Warm, natural materials are used. Wood for the floors, light, traditional Japanese panels for compartments and white canvas to protect the interior from excessive heat. Even more, some of the trees were literally incorporated into the house, by letting them grow up to the sky in between the walls of the house. The rooms just go around them, surrounding all four sides and making themselves one with the green environment. Living close to the heart of nature was never so well understood and put into practice. A Camouflage House by Hiroshi Iguchi? Yes, please!
It is a large shell-shaped structure in the middle of the woods, perfectly integrated into nature. Within it one finds constructed floors, walls that separate spaces, and furnished rooms. The natural scenery conjures up a kind of sci-fi film image, in which locals inhabit an abandoned spacecraft.

The Shibuya Station architect is Tadao Ando, who won the Pritzker Prize in 1995. A one-time boxer and truck driver, Ando is a self-educated architect known for minimalist, Brutalist concrete structures. In Shibuya Station, he has used thick, empty, lightweight 'bricks' of prefabricated Glass Fibre-Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) for every surface: floors, walls, ceilings and columns.

Gravity Defying Homes Gangster House (Archangelsk, Russia) Though incomplete, the “Gangster House” is believed to be the world's tallest wooden house, soaring thirteen floors to reach 144 feet (about half the size of London’s Big Ben). The homeowner or gangster, Nikolai Sutyagin, had all intentions of finishing the construction but his dream went on hold when he got locked up behind bars for his third jail sentence. Now out of jail and out of money, the ex-convict lives at the bottom of this precarious tower of wood.

CNET very quietly launched a simple new photo uploading site called AllYouCanUpload last week. At first glance it doesn’t appear to be very special or disruptive. But it is. By launching AllYouCanUpload, CNET just pulled the rug out from under at least two startups (photobucket and imageshack) that focus on providing image hosting for users who want to display those images on other websites, like Myspace, eBay and others. This is a big business - a lot of traffic flows through photobucket today, and it is a profitable and well funded company.
