Compaq Presario V2000 : a wide-screen laptop for travel

If you're considering a wide-screen laptop for travel, the Compaq Presario V2000 belongs at the top of your list. At just 6.1 pounds (not including the AC adapter), this compact unit is easier to carry than many competing wide-screen notebooks. Its 14.1-inch BrightView screen, an inch shorter than a standard 14.1-inch screen, should clear an airline seat back much more easily.

Some of Barbra Streisand's fans have some advice for the diva as she makes a rare U.S. tour -- shut up and sing.

Not all members of her audience, who paid up to $250 (134 pounds) for a ticket, have appreciated her politics. During a performance at New York's Madison Square Garden this week, one concertgoer yelled out, asking if the concert was a fundraiser. Streisand replied: "Shut the f*** up!"

()() I couldn't agree more. Actors and singers don't have a right to push their views on people who pay to see them perform, not preach.

A photograph taken at a network event in May, showing Couric standing on stage smiling in a pin-stripped suit, was digitally altered to give the incoming CBS News anchor a trimmer waistline, darker clothing and even a thinner face.

The extra body armor the Pentagon is issuing Soldiers and Marines in Iraq will not be a welcome addition for everyone.

While some say they won't go into battle without the protective side plates, others say they don't want to add any more weight to their gear, which can easily top 70 pounds.

Sympatico / MSN Health & Fitness : News : Study found those who walked a dog for a year lost average of 14 pounds

A University of Missouri-Columbia study says that having a dog can help people get more exercise and lose weight.

"Our goal was to look for ways to increase the average exercise regimen, and we found being responsible for a pet, such as committing to walk a loaner dog, encouraged people who did not own dogs to walk more often and for longer periods of time. Our first study group averaged a weight loss of 14 pounds during the one-year program," researcher Rebecca Johnson, an associate professor of nursing and director of the College of Veterinary Medicine's Research Center for Human-Animal Interaction, said in a prepared statement.

Fuel efficiency plan targets SUVs, except the biggest | csmonitor.com

The proposal is a complicated formula based on the dimensions (not weight) of six different categories of such vehicles. Smaller pickups, minivans, and SUVs would have to become stingier on gas between now and 2011 than under current law (28.4 miles per gallon instead of 23.5 m.p.g.); for larger light truck models, the requirement would actually be reduced somewhat (21.3 m.p.g. instead of 23.5 m.p.g.). Highway behemoths - Hummer H2s, Ford Excursions, and other models weighing between 8,500 and 10,000 pounds - would remain exempt from fuel economy standards on the grounds that they're a very small percentage of all personal vehicles on the road today.
