Privacy Diffusion on the Web: A Longitudinal Perspective | Semantic Web Dog Food

<blockquote><p>or the last few years we have studied the diffusion of private information about users as they visit various Web sites triggering data gathering aggregation by third parties. This paper reports on our longitudinal study consisting of multiple snapshots of our examination of such diffusion over four years. We examine the various technical ways by which third-party aggregators acquire data and the depth of userrelated information acquired. We study techniques for protecting against this privacy diffusion as well as limitations of such techniques. We introduce the concept of secondary privacy damage. Our results show increasing aggregation of user-related data by a steadily decreasing number of entities. A handful of companies are able to track users' movement across almost all of the popular Web sites. Virtually all the protection techniques have significant limitations highlighting the seriousness of the problem and the need for alternate solutions.</p></blockquote>

jQuery.ifixpng - png transparency for windows ie versions below 6

plugin designed to fix that problem by applying appropriate filters to user specified elements, while keeping all element tags intact.

Plugin works well with both img elements within the DOM and css properties specified externally.

• It is chainable.

• Unlike some other png hack solutions, it does not replace/hide any of your html tags.

• You can revert applied changes using .iunfixpng().

• Extremely easy to use!
Known limitations
(I don't have solutions for those listed below yet - CSS features that are lost when the fix applied)

• Always defaults to "background-position:top left" and you cannot reposition it.

• Unable to perform "background-repeat:repeat-y" or "background-repeat:repeat-x" on a target.

• For the hack to work your item needs to be visible.

Infiniband is an interconnect technology that breaks through the bandwidth and fanout limitations of PCI bus by switching from traditional shared bus architecture to a switched fabric architecture.
Download: Photoshop Brushes Series 40

I've had a surprising number of requests for a collection of watercolor-style brushes for Adobe Photoshop. But with the limitations of Photoshop's paint engine, that's a bit of a trick. Unlike programs like Corel Painter and Synthetik Studio Artist, Photoshop doesn't give you the ability to create anything that truly behaves like wet media with spreading, smearing and diffusing effects. Nevertheless, we can get part way there.

Monitoring File Uploads using Ajax and PHP - PHP articles and tutorials, MySQL, PostgreSQL

Because of the limitations of HTTP, it is difficult to monitor the status of files as they are uploaded via HTML forms. While other programming languages have built-in methods to monitor file uploads, PHP does not. This article shows how to implement such a solution in PHP.

In order to achieve this, the APC (Alternative PHP Cache) PHP extension is required, as well as PHP 5. Specifically, APC 3.0.13 or newer and PHP 5.2 or newer are required for the code in this article to work. We will cover installation of APC in the next section. It is assumed you already have a working PHP 5.2 installation.
