The sober, utilitarian cover gave way to the dust jacket as advertising vehicle, culminating in the vivid graphics, stylized fonts, and “special effects” such as embossing and metallic inks that today scream from bookstore shelves everywhere.

I didn’t read English well, so I mainly taught myself these things by studying the pictures and diagrams. By the time I saw my first windmill on the cover of an American textbook called Using Energy, I was able to apply all this previous knowledge and set out to build my own.
So... Pigs, Pimps and Prostitutes! This is a recent favorite of mine--three great films, and I was very happy with how the design came together. A different animal than my previous Imammura cover, Vengeance is Mine, but both are personal favorites, actually. Here's the first idea I had, which is pretty close to the final covers

About the Photographer: I mostly enjoy combining photography with both travel and the outdoor landscape. This activity began informally as I started to cover my bland office wall with pictures taken while hiking or traveling remote destinations. Over the past couple years, my interest has grown as I've followed the works of outdoor and adventure photographers. I began with a 35mm SLR, stepped up to a 6x7 medium format camera, and also began using 4x5 large format equipment. More recently, most of my images are made on Nikon's D700 digital SLR camera.
