As Election Day approaches, opposition to electronic voting machines has swelled, in part because a small percentage of them are made by the same American company involved in a disputed congressional election in Florida last November.
A radical activist on a mission to "out" conservative homosexual lawmakers and Capitol Hill staffers held on to information about Rep. Mark Foley's relationships with underage male pages, suggesting the story would break at the time of mid-term elections. Blogger Jim Hoft of Gateway Pundit points to a campaign by two activists who had Foley on their "target list" of 20 people and shared the information with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. ()() This seems to be the smoking gun that proves the Democratic leadership knew about Foley for months and did nothing about it.
The Democrats finally have their issue. Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL) resigned his seat in the House of Representatives on Friday, September 29, after news leaked that he had sexually harassed an underage male Congressional page. Foley repeatedly e-mailed and instant messaged the page, revoltingly asking him to undress, to measure his genitals with a ruler, to list details regarding frequency and method of masturbation, and to tell Foley when he was aroused. "[I'd] love to slip [your shorts] off you and [grab] the one-eyed snake," Foley messaged the teen.
Following the revelations about Florida Rep. Mark Foley's sexually suggestive e-mails to a 16-year-old congressional page, I have concluded Republicans are unworthy of retaining control of the federal government. I sincerely regret this is the case. I would much prefer that there were a real viable alternative to the Democrats, who are not only unworthy, but also unacceptable.
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is guilty of "judicial blackmail," according to the American Legion, which is pushing for congressional legislation to end one of the ACLU's streams of revenue. Judges would be stripped of the authority to award attorney fees to the ACLU and similar groups in cases involving the U.S. Constitution's First Amendment Establishment Clause, if the American Legion gets its way.
Since 1989, the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) has examined Congressional roll-call votes to determine which members of Congress are voting in the interest of taxpayers. Our goal is to applaud the members who want to protect our tax dollars and cut spending. At the same time, CAGW wants to alert the taxpaying public to those who prefer big government and using public funds for pet programs and pork-barrel spending. As a result of lobbying, ethics scandals, and increased scrutiny of pork-barrel projects that were slipped into authorization and appropriations bills, it would make sense that the 2005 Congressional Ratings would have shown significant improvement over 2004. Unfortunately for taxpayers, there was minimal progress. Congress, particularly the Senate, turned a tin ear to taxpayers and voted for more wasteful spending. Editor's Note: All three of my representatives got "Taxpayer Hero" ratings although I'm not sure Inglis and Graham deserved it.
While a series of marches focused much of the nation's attention on the plight of illegal immigrants, scores of other Americans quietly seethed. Now, with the same full-throated cry expressed by those in the country illegally, they are shouting back. Congressional leaders in Washington have gotten bricks in the mail from a group that advocates building a border fence, states in the West and South have drawn up tough anti-immigrant laws, and ordinary citizens, such as Janis McDonald of Pennsylvania, who considers herself a liberal, are not mincing words in expressing their displeasure.
