The IBuySpy Portal architecture (PDF)

<blockquote><p>In this book, we'll be using the freely available IBuySpy Portal as a starting point for our intranet development. We'll look at both why we are modifying an existing intranet application rather than creating our own, and why we choose the IBuySpy Portal in particular. Once we have covered the basics, we'll take a tour of its features, looking at the files and types it consists of, how they function and fit together, and general principles behind the site. Finally, we'll take a brief look at how security is handled.</p></blockquote>

Single Post Template Plugin — Nathan Rice

The Single Post Template plugin adds the ability for your theme to include “Post Templates” in much the same way you can add “Page Templates”, allowing you to choose (via a simple dropdown) which post template you want to use, on a per-post basis.
All you need to do, after installing and activating the plugin, is create one or more “Post Templates” in your theme’s folder, and when creating or editing a post, choose the post template that you would like to use. If no post template is selected, the default template will be used.

his plugin allows you to make a WordPress page or post link to a URL of your choosing, instead of its WordPress page or post URL. It also will redirect people who go to the old (or "normal") URL to the new one you've chosen (301 Moved Permanently redirects are standard, but you can choose a 302 Moved Temporarily redirect if you wish).

This functionality is useful for setting up navigational links to non-WordPress sections of your site or to off-site resources.

You can also use it to create a hand-crafted menu that links to pages, posts, categories, or anything within your site.

keybr.com - take typing speed test and practice typing online

Have you ever wished that you had a way to practice typing so that you could become a more efficient and capable keyboard jockey? Typing at the “speed of thought,” perhaps? Enter Keybr.com — the flash–based typing instructor you’ve been waiting for!
Keybr.com is very straightforward. You can choose from three basic lessons that start with a certain number of keys on the keyboard, and then, as you progress through the lessons, more keys are introduced to the mix to make things a little tougher. As an added bonus, our software keeps track of all your mistakes and your words–per–minute (wpm) — and even creates graphs of your day–by–day performance.
But, things get even better! Once you have determined that the lessons you have completed have reached their maximum result, get ready to play with custom mode, where you can edit and personalize the text that you wish to practice! Very bare–bones, but oh, so functional.
Finally, to up the entertainment level of your typing lessons, you can import content from a web site or blog into Keybr.com to type it out.
But why even bother to learn touch typing? The answer is simple — it is healthier for you, faster and more accurate. Blogging, writing long documents and e–mails, instant messaging with your friends, and even coding sophisticated computer programs will become much easier and more enjoyable once you eliminate distraction of hunt–and–peck typing.
If you are curious about how touch typing appears to onlookers, please watch a couple of short YouTube videos demonstrating really high typing speed:

Manipulate images from WordPress post’s content with Regular Expressions » Matt Varone // Matt Varone

A couple of months ago I got requested to deliver a website that would let the client publish online brochures. These brochures featured image slideshows with a description text, tags, categories etc. Many of us use WordPress not only as a blog platform but also as a multifaceted CMS. There are many features WordPress give that go beyond the blog format and that with the right adjustments and/or plugins, can be used to provide a complete solid solution. Thats why we choose to build this up on WordPress.

At first I look around to see the wp plugins available but found that none of them suited the needs of this project. I wanted to keep this very simple and easy for the client, so the best solution I came up was to let client dump any image he wanted in the post’s content-box and deal with it later with regular expressions. This way I could manage the content and present it in a good looking slideshow I could style myself.

CodeProject - Create your own simple Button for Google Toolbar and link to add it in Googlebar

To base64 encode an image for your button, determine or create your image. Then use this page to encode your image. Copy the result into the image element of your XML document. If you have an RSS or Atom feed, insert the URL of your feed into the feed element. Save your document with an .xml extension (we used updated_button.xml). Copy the XML file to the root of your website directory. It's ready to go! Now, just add the below link to your site, where ever you choose and when people click it, they will get your button added onto their Google toolbar: http://toolbar.google.com/buttons/add?url=http://www.yourwebsite.com/yourbuttonxmlfile.xml Replace the url= with the fully qualified public url to your xml file. If someone clicks the link and doesn't already have the correct version of Google Toolbar installed, they will be prompted to install the correct toolbar.

Duoh.com

Veerle, graphic design degree in hand, started Duoh! in 1992, focusing on freelance print work. In 1994, she was wooed by Geert Leyseele. Clutching her strong graphic design principles under one arm, and her heart in the other, she took the leap, and a little while later, beautiful little Duoh! n.v. was born.
Geert Leyseele

As it turned out, Geert wasn't just another pretty face. Veerle's hero brought superpowers to her business: X-ray vision to see around corners into the future of the web, a drive to move to Web Standards, an eye for project management, and the ability to leap wireframes and IA obstacles in a single bound.

When Veerle's blog became famous around the world for her tutorials and insights on design, CSS, and other subjects, fascinated readers saw the picture in the heading and asked, "Is that the designer's girlfriend?" No, it was Veerle, the other happy half of Duoh!
Life is our inspiration

We inhale the richness of life :

    * sharing love, laughter, and knowledge with our friends and web community
    * absorbing design (from galaxies to retro menus to bathroom faucets, we see it everywhere)
    * putting our minds to design puzzles
    * digging deeply into markup and code so our designs can sing
    * delighting in chill house and progressive house music, art and artists, lovely sandy beaches, and biking through the countryside

and, then, we exhale websites.
Growing up but staying small

We love what we do and want to do it ourselves, not manage others. We create websites for some Big Clients (and fresh, little start-ups, too), and choose our clients just as carefully as they choose us. Each day, we throw ourselves passionately into the task of becoming better at work and at play. The rest of the Duoh! story? Look around; our work says it all.

OffMaps - Offline maps for the iPhone and iPod Touch | Offline maps for iPhone & iPod Touch

<blockquote><p>OffMaps lets you take your maps offline. It is the ideal companion for any iPhone and iPod Touch user, who wants to access maps when travelling abroad (and avoid data roaming charges) and who wants to have fast access to maps at all times. This app (and the icon) just has to be on the right hand side of Apple's built-in maps app.</p><p>OffMaps uses OpenStreetMaps that include a lot more information than simple road maps: from ATMs and train stations to restaurants and pubs! You choose which areas to download instead of buying a new app for every city you want to visit.</p></blockquote>
