The Longest Way 1.0 - one year walk/beard grow time lapse on Vimeo

November 9th 2007 - November 13th 2008

one year on foot - 4646km through China

unlimited beard & hair growth

thelongestway.com

musical score by the kingpins ( myspace.com/theoneandonlykingpins ) and zhu fengbo

Additional info:

- I never finished my original goal of walking to Germany. Instead, I walked for a year and roughly 4500km, passed the desert of Gobi, and then decided to stop walking for now.

- All of the distance from Beijing to Ürümqi has been completed solely on foot, straight good old walking. There are instances where you can see me in the video sitting on a plane or riding a boat, but those are during breaks I had to take from walking, either to sort out bureaucracy issues or to take care of some personal things.

- I had been planning this trip for over a year before I even started, and getting as far as I got was an experience for which I am very grateful.

- Obtaining the necessary visa for a trip like this was not very easy, hence I had to go back to Beijing a few times to resolve some issues.

- The songs I used in the video are 1) Zhu Fengbo - "Olive Tree" and 2) The Kingpins - "L'aventurier" - visit the Kingpins website if you want to know more, they are very cool I think.

- This is not a strict "1 pic a day" video, because I wanted to make it a bit more alive by adding some additional movement. Sometimes during the film you would follow me turn around, or something would happen in the background. I tried to capture these moments to make the video more interesting.

- The core of this project is in fact my website "www.thelongestway.com" where I have posted my extensive travel diary, starting from day 1 (Nov 9th 2007) and describing every single day until the end one year later.

Google (Nasdaq:GOOG) China's mobile search traffic increased four-fold in 2008, making China Google's third largest mobile search market behind Japan and the U.S., reports qq.com quoting Lin Bin, vice director of Google China's engineering institute. Google China's mobile map usage climbed seven-fold in 2008 to come in second after the U.S. According to an unnamed source, the company plans to use its cloud computing technology to improve mobile, MP3 and map search services in 2009. Google China's map products have begun generating revenue and the company may consider increasing revenue via advertising, said Google China technology director Li Yi. Google China's MP3 search service (www.google.cn/music) was launched through a partnership with music site Top100.cn in early August.

Mobile Technologies: From Telecommunications to Media

In light of emerging forms of software, interfaces, cultures of uses, and media practices associated with mobile media, this collection investigates the various ways in which mobile media is developing in different cultural, linguistic, social, and national settings. We consider the promises and politics of mobile media and its role in the dynamic social and gender relations configured in the boundaries between public and private spheres. In turn, the contributors revise the cultural and technological politics of mobiles. The collection is genuinely interdisciplinary, as well as international in its range, with contributors and studies from China, Japan, Korea, Italy, Norway, France, Belgium, Britain, and Australia.

CCCB :: Exhibition In the Chinese city. Perspectives on the transmutations of an Empire - Ciutat i espai públic : Espai públic : Espai urbà : Transformació urbana, Cultura : Transformació cultural

For a decade now, China has been immersed in major processes of construction and destruction that have greatly modified its landscape. The exhibition will situate these changes in the country's historical and cultural continuum. It aims to present the reality of the city past and present in four of its dimensions: town planning, architecture, landscape and infrastructure. It will also be an opportunity to compare these realities with the Chinese and Western imaginaries, and with mechanisms of information or propaganda.
