Biggest, Tallest Tree Photo Ever - The Picture Show Blog : NPR

National Geographic sent Nichols to spend an entire year in California's redwood forest. His mission was to capture the majesty of some of the tallest trees on Earth, some of which date back before Christ. And if you've ever photographed in a forest, you'll understand the challenge this presented. There's no capturing the awe one feels before these monoliths that measure, in some cases, upward of 300 feet.

MP3: Helicentrics Live in Paris | Stones Throw Records

After Madlib was forced to cancel a show in Paris late last year, Malcolm Catto came from London to Paris on a moment’s notice with fellow Heliocentrics Jake Ferguson (bass) and Adey Owasu (guitar) of The Heliocentrics, and stole the show in front of 650 rather frenzied Stones Throw fans. This less-than-ten-minute section of their one hour jam session doesn’t come close to capturing the vibe in the cramped quarters of La Bellevilloise that Saturday, 6th of December 2008.

technobabbler » Blog Archive » drive a webcam with python

I bought a USB webcam off of eBay quite some time ago, and I decided to connect it to my telescope with a little bit of hardware hackery. I'll have to see about posting a writeup on how I did that at a later time. Anyway, when I installed my camera software, I quickly found how horrible the program was. It gave a tiny preview of what the camera saw, and had no way of capturing images or video without waaaay too many clicks of the mouse. That's when I decided to write my own in Python.

Modern Japan, the second largest economy in the world, is a land of contradictions.
Home to some of the most sophisticated technology and manufacturing, it also has communities whose daily life has changed little in the last 500 years. It is a place of great beauty, both in the landscapes and its celebrations, festivals, and traditional arts. Hiroji Kubota spent four years traveling the length and breadth of his country's many islands, capturing the magnificent diversity of the people and places along the way. From rice paddies to pachinko parlors, ancient temples to the Honda assembly plants, Kubota's lens has captured both the ordinary and the extraordinary of a dually antiquated and modern nation.

FireShot

FireShot is a Firefox extension that creates and edits screenshots of web pages.

Unlike other extensions, this plugin provides a set of editing and annotation tools, which let users quickly modify captures and insert text and graphical annotations. Such functionality will be especially useful for web designers, testers and content reviewers.

Screenshots can be saved to disk (PNG, JPEG, BMP), copied to clipboard, e-mailed and sent to external editor for further processing.
Tired of silly utilites that grab only currently displayed area of the page?

FireShot extension integrates with Firefox and provides capturing both entire web page and only currently visible area

IE NetRenderer - Browser Compatibility Check -

E NetRenderer allows you to check how a website is rendered by Internet Explorer 7, 6 or 5.5, as seen from a high speed datacenter located in Germany. Just type in a URL in the field above and try it out - it's free!

Unlike other screenshot services, we are able to process a large number of capturing jobs in parallel and in realtime, making it the fastest service that we know of.

This web rendering tool is ideally suited for web designers working on Apple iMac and Linux workstations. It allows to verify web designs natively on all popular Internet Explorer versions, without the need to set aside several physical or virtual Microsoft Windows PCs just for that purpose.
