nl is a python library, that exposes a declarative API that allows us to build sentences and rules. These are used as input for a knowledge base built on the CLIPS production system. CLIPS builds a Rete network with the rules and sentences, which can then be queried for the consecuences of those in a most efficient way.

The main claim of nl is to offer a syntax that can accommodate any coherent theory that we may build with the natural language (in the same sense as something like the semantic web's OWL-Full would), while at the same time being based on a simple finite domain first order theory. This theory is NL, a discussion of which can be found here. This discussion is probably required reading to understand the breadth and the limits of nl, but not to start using it.

IngentaConnect Unfolding the Earth: Myriahedral Projections

Myriahedral projections are a new class of methods for mapping the earth. The globe is projected on a myriahedron, a polyhedron with a very large number of faces. Next, this polyhedron is cut open and unfolded. The resulting maps have a large number of interrupts, but are (almost) conformal and conserve areas. A general approach is presented to decide where to cut the globe, followed by three different types of solution. These follow from the use of meshes based on the standard graticule, the use of recursively subdivided polyhedra and meshes derived from the geography of the earth. A number of examples are presented, including maps for tutorial purposes, optimal foldouts of Platonic solids, and a map of the coastline of the earth.

VideoClix to Power Clickable Interactive Video for Dailymotion | InteractiveTV Today

VideoClix, a Vancouver-based provider of technologies for clickable interactive video (which it calls "hypervideo"), said last week that it has signed a deal with Dailymotion, a Paris-based company which claims that its flagship broadband video portal is the world's second-largest. According to VideoClix, its technology will provide Dailymotion users with an "active and engaging" experience while providing advertisers with a non-intrusive way to reach their target audience. "This partnership brings clickable video to the masses on a global scale," VideoClix CEO, Babak Maghfourian, said in a prepared statement. "It's a win, win, win for audiences, publishers and advertisers alike."

- Dreamlinux is a free, modern and modular GNU/Linux system. It can be run directly from a CD/DVD/USBStick and optionally be installed to a HDD, including IDE, SCSI, SATA, PATA and USB drives.
- Dreamlinux comes with a selection of the best applications designed to meet most of your daily needs.

Dreamlinux is based on the venerable Debian Operating System. This means it takes advantage of Debian's best features and adds its own modern development tools, system scripts and applications.

Dreamlinux Desktop Edition 3.5 comes with XFCE Desktop Environment as default. However, nothing prevents anyone from using other desktop environments, thanks to Dreamlinux's modular architecture. For example, you'll find Gnome Desktop Environment available as an XFCE replacement. Shortly, we will make LXDE, TDE and Fluxbox available as well.
